Creative Beauty and Digital Content Director

Choosing an outfit for a special occasion can often be stressful.  Often we are going through life challenges that can affect our confidence as well as just getting stuck in a rut in regards to our wardrobe choices.  There is an expectation that we need to up our glam game over the party season but does this mean we have to squeeze ourselves in to a little black sequin dress, or wear high heels that we wouldn’t normally wear and quite frankly, struggle to walk in let alone dance in?  Maybe you are more casual in your style and looking for a way to elevate your look without feeling too uncomfortable? Christmas fashion can be daunting but also great fun and Gemma Rimmington wanted to meet with Personalist Stylist, Bella so she could guide us through her picks of the best day to evening fashion inspiration this season.

Gemma and Bella headed to high street favourites Monsoon and New Look which were stocked with lots of festive fashion - with something for everyone.  The Christmas season is the perfect time to be playful with sparkly fashions.  Whether its a sequinned dress for the office party, an embellished jumper for a family meal or a statement bag to accessorise your wardrobe, you can dress up or dress down according to your comfort level and occasion.
A little bit about Bella
Bella is a Personal Stylist, based in North East and she specialises in helping individuals who want to elevate their personal style.

“My main goal is to create a fully unique style for my clients and I will take all aspects of their life into consideration when I’m putting together a wardrobe for them.  When I’m styling a client I will advise them step by step how they can pull together a fabulous outfit whilst complimenting their body shape and complexion.“
Bella’s favourite festive pick
Hats are a fun way to stay warm and lift your winter outfit!  These embellished berets will look great with a wool coat for a quirky and festive look.  Perfect for a trip to the Christmas markets!

Stylist Top Tip: When you are wearing a beret it should not be worn straight on the top of your head but more at the back of the head and a little slouched on the side.

If you are not in to dresses and skirts but still want to dress up an outfit, here is some style inspo for you.  This soft grey knit, teamed with some skinny jeans and a pair of ankle boots is instantly glammed up with this metallic silver bag.  This kind of bag will also be suitable for other occasions throughout the year too as its not your typical Christmas sparkle.

If a pair of jeans isn’t dressy enough for the occasion you can level up the look by wearing some must-have leather look pants.  They will look amazing with the knitted jumper, tucked in slightly at the front of the pants to elongate your legs and worn with ankle boots.  This gorgeous bag was added for a pop of colour!

If you do not want to invest in a full new outfit but you have been invited to a Christmas party, a little sparkly bag can add that festive feel to your look.  Try experimenting with smooth textures like faux leather, velvet and knits to balance out the sparkle or simply style them with your best  LBD (little black dress) and favourite heels.

Stylist Top Tip: Keep the shoes plain if you are wearing a sparkly bag.  Choose one or the other.

I absolutely love this sequin jacket.  This is great if you are conscious of your upper arms and would look great with just a plain satin cami underneath.  You can wear this jacket with either black pants or a light blue denim for a modern boho look.

Stylist Top Tip: The gold sequins are suitable for warmer skin tones.  If you tan easily in the sun, it is likely you have a warmer skin tone.

If you have been invited to a Christmas lunch and want to stay warm and more casual this teal knit with embellished stars is a great option.  This one in particular will suit someone with a bigger bust as it has a v-neck - this will balance your upper half.  Teal is a cool tone which would really suit a fair skin tone.

This dress is definitely a showstopper - perfect for New Year’s Eve.  I have paired it with the metallic bag as a contrast to make it even more fun! Add a pair of matching metallic shoes to complete the look and go easy on the jewellery to keep the focus on the dress.

I love a good jumpsuit! They are so much fun to wear and something a little different.  A jumpsuit like this one is great for curves as it will really synch in at the waist.  If you haven’t worn one, give it a go this season.

Stylist Top Tip: If you are short, jumpsuits can often be too long in the leg but take it to a local seamstress and they can perfect the length for you.  It is so worth it!

This sequin batwing jumper is perfect for Christmas Day! A batwing jumper and a pair of skinny jeans is a great style for those who have an inverted triangle body shape.  If you are broader at the top, a batwing will soften your upper half.

I have also chosen the black sequin blouse as an alternative.  It has a higher neck which is ideal for those not wanting to flaunt their curves or if you have a smaller bust.  This style would also work well as a work appropriate shirt - it’s smart and festive at the same time.
Picture
This beautiful LBD with tassels is perfect for an hourglass shape - the belt will draw attention to the waist.  I have paired it with the star sequin bag with gold details and would recommend choosing black or gold heels.

Stylist Top Tip: Don’t wear a necklace with a deep v-neck.  The v-neck is the statement aspect of a dress like this so wearing a necklace will detract from the style.

I absolutely love how a glamorous sparkly shoe can finish an outfit.  This selection have a mid-heel and straps which make them ideal for those are not used to wearing a high stiletto and the straps help to prevent falling out of your shoe!  If you have a wide feet New Look and M&S always have a great selection.

Stylist Top Tip: Neutral shoe colours will elongate your legs.  Bold colours can be unflattering as they can “cut off” your legs if you are on the shorter side, especially if they also have thick ankle straps.

Hair accessories are everywhere at the moment.  These ones are perfect for the party season and can add glam to any outfit.  When you are styling a headband go easy with jewellery otherwise the result can quickly look cheap.  The pearl headband will look amazing with a preppy look (think Blair Waldorf).  The black one would be fabulous with a bold red lip and biker jacket.  The multi coloured headband would be beautiful if you teamed it with a matching pop of colour!
